Who are Independent Theory? Oli Mccarthy on rhythm guitar and lead vocals; Benjy Wade on lead guitar; Theo McDonald on bass and backing vocals; and Raph Govard on drums. Where in Somerset are you from? Bruton When did you form? Early 2004 How did you get together? Theo and Oli both played instruments, and they decided to make a band. First of all, it was just the two of them writing songs - they had to use a drum machine for the drums. Then they decided they really needed a drummer - Kate Snook joined first, and was then replaced by Raphial Govard. They did a few gigs together, and then thought a second guitarist would be nice. Dan King filled the role - he did one gig with them and then left, so Benjy Wade joined the band. That's now the setup of the band - we hope to keep it like this for a while! How would you describe your music? Punk, grunge, rock, metal and industrial - it's pretty fast music. How did the band gets its name? Off the top of Theo's head - he stuck two words together, and we liked it. Who are your musical influences? Deftones, Korn, Tool, Primus, Slipknot and Blink 182. What is your most memorable gig so far? Probably The Castle in Bruton, with Joe Public and The Josh White Band. It was so good having people actually appreciate us - it was great fun. Where would you most like to play? Probably the Download Festival, or on Conan O'Brien's show. Thinking realistically though, somewhere nice and big, and in the spotlight.Ìý Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself Raph is two years younger than the rest of the band, and smokes more than any of us. No one ever listens to each other - we're amazed we get songs down, ha ha. |
