Bloody Tourists

United by their love for The Pixies, The Fall and The White Stripes, Bloody Tourists, from Bath, needed a name that was already on the lips of the people they passed.

Who are Bloody Tourists?

Lee Elkins on bass guitar and vocals; James Cradock on lead guitar and backing vocals; and Dave Lawson on drums.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Bath

How did you get together?

We met through working in other bands, and were united by our love for The Pixies, The Fall and The White Stripes.

How would you describe your music?

The band's rough, spiky punk-pop bears all the abrasiveness of Pere Ubu's classic 'modern dance' period, and is delivered with a skeletal rawness, both shamelessly simple and feverishly provocative.

Bloody Tourists, much like those original punk bands, steer well clear of any quick-fix punk-by-numbers template currently in vogue. Indeed, there are elements of Hendrix and The Velvet Underground, as well as The Stooges and MC5.

How did the band gets its name?

Walking through the streets of Bath we needed a name that was already on the lips of the people we passed.

Who are your musical influences?

What is your most memorable gig so far?

A gig we played in Covent Garden as part of the Battle of the Bands final.

It was filled to capacity and the atmosphere was incredible. We came away with 拢500's worth of studio time in Brixton.

Where would you most like to play?

Any venue with a crowd who enjoy good music.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

  • Dave is diabetic, and the speed of the songs depends entirely on the level of sugar flying round his body (often high before a gig).
  • James learnt the guitar in order to play it in the band just about a year-and-a-half ago.
  • Lee always manages to enter the changing rooms of gigs at the most perfectly inappropriate times (a real gift).
