Somerset Sounds - Artists

Musical notes

The Kiwis

From merely being bored to headlining Glasto and subverting Somerset County Council, this Glastonbury-based four-piece is certainly aiming high.

Who are The Kiwis?

Georgia Potter on vocals, Joe Oxley on bass, George Garratt on drums and Ben Martin on guitar.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Glastonbury

When did you form?

2004

How did you get together?

From the ashes of various bands, and from being bored!

How would you describe your music?

Slightly grungy, with some more contemporary indie overtones.

How did the band gets its name?

An epiphany courtesy of our wonderful drummer, George.

Who are your musical influences?

Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Manic Street Preachers, Dinosaur JR, Rush, Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Joy Division, The Smiths, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Crispin Battle of the Bands 2006, an amazing night!

Where would you most like to play?

Cuba (but we'd settle for Sunday headliners at Glasto!)

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

We are in actual fact just a front for an extremist left-wing coup planning to take over Somerset County Council. F*A*C*T.
