Who are the Berry Goddard Band? (Miss) Berry Goddard on tenor sax, Dan Reid on trumpet, JD on guitar, Tom Woodworth on bass, and Mark Whitlam on drums. Where in Somerset are you from? Bath When did you form?
| JD on guitar |
2003 How did you get together? Playing music and drinking at Bath University when we should have been studying. How would you describe your music? Jazz and funk. We try not to play 'chin-stroking' intellectual jazz - something with more of a groove and soul to it. Some of it is our own work and some tunes are standards re-worked. How did the band gets its name? BGB - Berry Goddard Band. We went through a whole heap of rubbish names before we went for the simple option. Who are your musical influences? - Berry - Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman.
- JD - Flea, Wes Montgomery.
- Tom - Charlie Mingus, Theolonius Monk, Metallica, Chili Peppers, Beatles, Little Feat.

What is your most memorable gig so far?
| Mark on drums |
Playing at Moles in Bath. We had a gig entitled BGB vs the Divas. It sounds like a tag-team wrestling match, but it was us playing with some fantastic jazzy, funky, sexy girls. Where would you most like to play? On a rooftop in the sunshine sounds like fun, but logistics could be a pain. Carrying a drum-set up there could be tricky. Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself Our use of bad language between friends in everyday conversation is amazing. We're all such nice people too. |
