Musical notes

Xerox Pig

Take a kaleidoscopic journey through punk, funk, crunk, dub, metal, lo-fi, indie, blues, and much in between, with Xerox Pig from deepest, darkest Somerset.

Who are Xerox Pig?

Dave Urwin on guitar, vocals, acting and wrongness; Bob Sainsbury on guitar, bass, vocals, percussion, flute, acting and wrongness.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Deepest, darkest Somerset

When did you form?

In a car on the way to Exmouth

How did you get together?

We got together as a reaction to the man trying to tell us we shouldn't.

In actual terms, we read an article about Steve Coogan in the newspaper and turned it into a 15-minute musical. We performed it the next night and it just carried on from there.

How would you describe your music?

A kaleidoscopic journey through punk, funk, crunk, dub, metal, lo-fi, indie, blues and much in between. When we play live we also have characters and sketches.

How did the band gets its name?

It was just something Bob said on my birthday and it kind of stuck.

Who are your musical influences?

They include The Mars Volta, Iron Maiden, Damian Marley, The Libertines, OutKast and The Clash.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

A gig at the Pig and Fiddle in Bath where we had the plug pulled on us.

We carried on playing for about three minutes afterwards, and then shouted some stuff, before walking through the streets of Bath playing Gangster's Paradise on a portable CD-player and getting people to salute.

We turned the experience into a DVD.

Where would you most like to play?

The Taj Mahal, Reykjavik City Hotel in Iceland, or an aquarium.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

  • Bob has a phobia of hot drinks from a kettle incident when he was younger.
  • Dave has been a contestant on Countdown.
  • We recently got within a whisker of being able to play cricket in a supermarket, but our dreams were dashed by a security guard with a negative world view.
