Who are Best Kept Secret? Robin Clarke on guitar, bass, mandolin, and vocals; James Hunt on guitar, bass, percussion, and vocals; Robert Nash on guitar, bass, mandolin, and vocals; and Laura Blackwell on lead vocals. Where in Somerset are you from? The Taunton area When did you form? In 2003 How did you get together? Robin, James and Robert have been friends for several years. They decided, in the summer of 2003, to form an acoustic band that would offer something different to the local music scene.
We advertised locally for a lead singer, and were lucky enough to find Laura to complete our line-up. How would you describe your music? Laid-back, acoustic covers, something for everyone. We cover a range of artists from Dido to Def Leppard, and from Fleetwood Mac to Mama Cass. How did the band gets its name? One of a number of suggestions made late one evening. We loved the name as soon as it was suggested, as there's something mysterious about it. Who are your musical influences? Anyone that plays real instruments really. What is your most memorable gig so far? The two that come to mind first are playing support to The Wurzels at Wellsprings Leisure Centre in Taunton in 2004 and 2005, and getting to the semifinals of the West Factor competition in 2005. Where would you most like to play? Anywhere that wants us! Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself - James also plays in a rock cover band called Burning Chrome.
- Robin is five feet and 18 inches tall.
- Robert is trying to create the world's largest collection of stringed instruments in private hands.
- Laura hadn't sung with a band before she met us.
