Webcams reveal Somerset's wildlife

The lives of animals and birds on a farm near Taunton are being broadcast to computer screens around the world, thanks to a number of video webcams.

Online around the clock, the webcams show the comings and goings of the wildlife at Denbury Farm.

Badger
Badger

The farm at Ash Priors receives regular visits from red and roe deer.

If you watch the webcams at night, you could spot badgers and foxes searching for food.

Cute otters and cheeky squirrels show up from time to time.

And there's also an opportunity to see horses foaling on the cameras.

If you're a twitcher (that's an obsessive birdwatcher to you and me), there's plenty to keep you enthralled.

Woodpeckers, kingfishers and swallows have set up home near the cameras.

Taking wildlife to new audiences

Squirrels

Colin Meadows hopes that the webcams will introduce children to animals they would not otherwise get a chance to see.

The owner of Denbury Farm says: "There's such good wildlife here.

"I've received many e-mails from America and Australia, saying how good the webcams are."

Hi Greg, In the winter it varies as the badgers do not leave their sett as often as they do in the warmer months, hence you see less of them at any time of the night, in about 6 weeks time they tend to come out at about the same time most nights

Audrey (London)
