Televised Anti-Fiction

Televised Anti-Fiction is a long journey in which a man gets caught up in an intense time-travel experience. Take a trip with the band through space and dimensions, and find out what on earth they're talking about!

Who are Televised Anti-Fiction?

Nathan Paul is on guitar and vocals. He also writes the lyrics and designs the artwork. Matt Wiltshire plays drums and percussion, and runs Televised Anti-Fiction's website.

Ben Lyons is on bass and vocals, and is also the sound engineer. Matt Davies plays piano and keyboard, and also does the effects and scores.

Rosie Capes is on cello and vocals, and Nick Davies plays lead guitar.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Shepton Mallet

When did you form?

In 2003

How did you get together?

Nath and Matt W started jamming together in late 2003, after splitting from a previous band. It wasn't long before we hooked up with our long-term friend and bassist, Ben.

Early 2004, we recruited Matt D on piano, and in the middle of 2004, we asked our mate's sister if she wanted to play cello in our band. She did, and our bond with her has grown strong since then.

Finally, in late 2004, Nick (Matt D's younger brother) joined after a party!ÌýThis was to be the ultimate line-up for Televised Anti-Fiction.Ìý

How would you describe your music?

We have always aimed to treat our music like a living being, so it's constantly evolving. We don't want to be classified into a single genre, so we try to be as experimental as possible so as not to create any boundaries.

At the moment, our music is a mixture of Joy Division, Pink Floyd, The Mars Volta and The Cure.

How did the band gets its name?

Televised Anti-Fiction is a long journey in which a man (Solar Plexus) gets caught up in an intense time-travel experience, through which any alterations could rip a vast hole in the material of space.

Travelling through space and dimensions, he will make the right or wrong decisions, ultimately saving or destroying his life.

Who are your musical influences?

The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In, Radiohead, And They Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Manic Street Preachers, Mogwai, Joy Division, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Cure, Chopin, Holst, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Santana, Pink Floyd, and Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Waking Time at Strode Theatre in 2004 could be, because it was our first-ever performance as Televised Anti-Fiction.

But our gig at the Bridgwater Rock Garden Café (Silhouettes) has to be the most memorable because it was the first gig with all six members of our line-up.

Where would you most like to play?

The John Peel Stage at Glastonbury Festival

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself:

We hardly spend a day apart; we are like family.
