August 2004

How did you get together?

We were all friends and thought starting a band would be a good idea to relieve the boredom of a small town.

How would you describe your music?

Guitar-driven, melodic, punky-pop tunes.

How did the band gets its name?

After a heck of a lot of deliberation and Stella Artois, the name Cartel was chosen, but the web name wasn't available, so the 'e' was dropped.

Who are your musical influences?

Cart L
The band would love to play live on Radio 1

Green Day, Nirvana, Blink 182, Billy Bragg, Hendrix, Graham Coxon,ÌýLibertines, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and numerous other bands.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

It was our first gig at the Reckless Engineer in Bristol. Our nerves were really bad before getting on stage, but the gig went really well!

Where would you most like to play?

The Reading and Leeds festivals, liveÌýon Radio 1, and LalaPalousa if it's still as good as it used to be!

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

Paul has a 10-month-old boy called Reuben. Steve once waved at Pete Doherty and he waved back. Ruaridh (pronounced Rory) is actually Scottish and not Irish or Canadian, as his accent may suggest. Luke is a talented painter/decorator, and he does talk after a few beers!
