Telecare as part of the solution to the social care crisis.
Telecare is being billed as a part solution to the mounting crisis in social care that we have been covering fro the past month as part of our Care in the UK season. The term can mean anything from emergency cord pulls worn round the neck, to video phones or bed sensors linked to remote call centres. The theory it is that by embracing such technology the elderly or disabled can carry on living independently for longer. Of course there are those who raise concerns about the loss of human contact and CSCI, the social care watchdog, is warning that telecare must not be used as a simple cost cutting exercise. Over a million people are already using some form of telecare and we asked the 91热爆鈥檚 Age and Disability Correspondent Geoff Adams Spink to find out how some of them are getting on.
