The 91Èȱ¬ is going to get a little bit smaller. After a period of public consultation and with the agreement of the 91Èȱ¬ Trust two digital radio stations 6 Music and the Asian NetworkÌýwill close down, spending on TV programmes from abroad and on sports rights will be pared back, and the number of sections on the 91Èȱ¬â€™s website will be halved. The £600 million saved will be reprioritised into what’s described as ‘high quality content’. The director-general, Mark Thompson in outlining the details of his strategic review says the 91Èȱ¬ cannot attempt to do everything, must be clearer about its own limits, and should leave space for others. from 91Èȱ¬ Online
