Conserving our trusted signposts
Three hundred years ago our forbears couldn't have imagined that one day their trusted milestones would become the objects of a conservation project.
Worried that these markers would be forgotten and lost forever, the Milestones Association has been set up to locate and preserve every milestone in the country.
In Yorkshire, society treasurer Jan Scriven and other enthusiasts have located most of the county's surviving examples. Jill Hopkins caught up with them at a busy crossroads in Huddersfield.
