The Liberal Democrats have just six women among theirÌýfifty-fourÌýMPs.
What steps should they take to increase their numbers?
Proportionally the number ofÌýwomen Liberal Democrat MPsÌýis only marginally higher than the Conservatives, and far behind Labour. But should they accept positive discrimination, and introduce formal mechanisms to select more women for winnable seats?ÌýOr is that,Ìýas some party members argue, a fundamentally illiberal proposal?Ìý
In the second of our series on women in political parties,ÌýBaroness Shirley Williams, Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords, Laura Turquet from the Fawcett Society and Jo Swinson, vice-chair of the Liberal Democrat Gender Balance Task Force join JenniÌý to discuss how the Liberal DemocratsÌýcan encourage more women into Parliament.
