Spanish Woman
Spanish Coplas are passionate and fiery songs that usually tell the story of a woman's life; often with an unfaithful man featuring in it somewhere. The songs were hugely popular during the 40s and 50s, and now they're back in fashion - often appearing in the Spanish pop charts.

Mercedes Carbayo-Abengozar is a senior lecturer in Modern Languages at Nottingham Trent University. Mercedes uses coplas in her teaching because she believes they changed the way women think in Spain. She explains why to Claudia Hammond...
