Rivka Golani is recognised as one of the great virtuoso violists of modern times. She has performed as a soloist with many of the world's most famous orchestras and more than 250 pieces have been written especially for her.
Noted for her intensely physical stage presence, she has contributed to the advancement of viola technique and has been the source of inspiration for many players. Not bad going, for an instrument that she says is often the butt of the jokes of orchestral players because it sits unnoticed between the cellos and the violins.
Rivka Golani joins Jenni to talk more about career and performs 'live' in the studio. Rivka will be performing at the Purcell Room at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 30 Nov with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra as part of Hungarian Jewish Culture Day.
