The last few years have seen profound changes in the youth justice system in this country.
One of the most controversial innovations has been the introduction of parenting orders for young people who are at risk or known to be offending or truanting from school. Under these orders, parents are compelled to attend parenting classes and failure to do so can result in criminal proceedings.
