Hilda Bernstein was ten years old when her father Simeon went to Russia to play his part in the building of a socialist utopia there.
Hilda, who later became one of South Africa's most fervent opponents of apartheid, was never to see her father again. He died still campaigning to get the London posting that would see him reunited with his family.
Now nearly ninety, Hilda joins Jenni to explain why she has revisited his letters and how she now understands the political forces that divided their family. 'Separation' by Hilda Bernstein is published by Corvo Books; ISBN: 0-9543255-2-4
