Ìý Amy Johnson Thursday 3 July 2003 Ìý
Amy Johnson was just 26 years old in 1930, when she became an international superstar, flying solo from England to Australia and smashing a world record on the way.

Three hundred thousand people turned out in her home city of Hull to greet her when she came back - at least ten songs were recorded celebrating her exploits. This week marks the centenary of her birth.
Amy Johnson's biographer Midge Gillies joins Jenni to talk about her life and the conspiracy theories surrounding her tragic early death at 37.
'Amy Johnson: Queen of the Air' by Midge Gillies is published by Weidenfeld & Nicholson; ISBN: 0-297-82982-3.
