Elisabeth Scott's 1932 Royal Shakespeare Theatre
Actors will often talk of how different theatres affect their performances. The RSC building in Stratford-upon-Avon wouldn't be on their top ten. Sinead Cusack calls it an alienating space. Another actor has described the distance between the stage and the balcony as playing from Calais to Dover.

This week the Royal Shakespeare Company tried to get the support of a Commons Committee for demolishing the theatre and building a whole new complex.
It was the first public building to be designed by a woman - Elizabeth Scott in 1932. And her work has many fans, among them Dr Lynn Walker from the Institute of Historical Research.
