This week the Royal Shakespeare Company tried to get the support of a Commons Committee for demolishing the theatre and building a whole new complex.
It was the first public building to be designed by a woman - Elizabeth Scott in 1932. And her work has many fans, among them Dr Lynn Walker from the Institute of Historical Research.
