Dr Sue Lieberman is the newly-appointed Director of the Species Programme at the World Wide Fund for Nature.
Until recently she was a civil servant in the US administration, working as a biologist and ecologist, advising the US Government on policy making for international conservation.
But in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in America and the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, how do you make the plight of the world's endangered species relevant?
Dr Sue Lieberman talks to Jenni about this issue now facing the conservation world and her plans for her new role.
