It was not until after World War II that lesbianism was widely acknowledged as an identity.
Alison Oram explores love and sex between women in Britain from 1780 to 1970 in her new book - The Lesbian History Sourcebook - Love and Sex between Women in Britain from 1780 to 1970 - from the lesbian archetype of cross-dressing women and romantic friends, the making of lesbianism in culture to the public perceptions of the relationship.
Alison joins AnnMarie Turnbull, co-author of the book to discuss lesbianism in history. The Lesbian History Sourcebook is published by Routledge, an imprint of Taylor & Francis Books Ltd, ISBN: 0415114853.
