Columbia is known as the kidnapping capital of the world – highlighted by Ingrid Betancourt’s release – but what is less well-known is that kidnapping is a grave and growing problem in Haiti in the Caribbean. And, as Ruth Alexander discovers, it’s women who are most at risk.
