![a sow and her litter of piglets](/staticarchive/f37274be4e0eac94951995fcae28541eddb7f097.jpg) Emma Cianchi on her rare breed pigs
At just 16, Emma Cianchi is probably the youngest rare pig breeder in the country. Yesterday , along with 670,000 others, Emma picked up her GCSE results from school in Hereford , paused for a brief celebration and then hurried back home to feed her herd of 45 pigs. She got her first piglets as pets and then began expanding her herd of Tamworths, Middle Whites and Saddle Backs in a field behind the family home. Emma's venture, which started just 18 months ago, is now a succesful family business. She's launched her own stall at Monmouth Farmers' Market, selling bacon and sausages, and this summer has been a regular speaker at food fayres and cookery demonstrations. Fiona Parsons went to meet Emma and her parents. |
