The acclaimed activist and writer on her distinguished career and the struggle for Sri Lanka.
Despite starting life as a singer and actress, Sunila Abeysekera felt compelled to fight for the human rights of detained Sri Lankans during the brutal civil war. Through decades of fighting, campaigner and activist Sunila has gained respect for her refusal to take sides; she has denounced the actions of both the government and the Tamil Tigers. Now, with the ceasefire withdrawn, Sunila has called Sri Lanka’s situation “the worst it has ever been”. She joins Jane to discuss her extraordinary career of campaigning and how she is due to be honoured by Human Rights Watch.
