The campaign for improvement
It’s been more than ten years since we heard about the plight of children in Romanian orphanages, when campaigns were launched to help children who were poorly cared for in state institutions. Now attention has turned to Bulgaria. According to some charities, children from birth, both disabled and able bodied, are confined to dirty beds with the absolute minimum of care. But how far is this the case?ÌýJane talks to Rosa Monkton, who, after visitingÌýthe country, is nowÌýcampaigning on this issue. She also talks toÌýHristo Momov, the deputy chair of the State Agency for Child Protection in Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian investigative journalist, Vladimir Bereanu.
