Was she right to reveal her past?
Sally Bercow is to stand as a Labour candidate in the local elections next May. But inÌýan interviewÌýlast week sheÌýrevealed that in her 20s she used to binge drink, and has had one-night-stands. Was it a good idea for her to reveal as much as she did about her private life? What purpose did it serve? Is it something that we want to hear more of from our future politicians? Sally has been criticised by some for speaking out, but would the reaction have been different if a man had revealed such details? To discuss the issues Jenni is joined by Anne McElvoy, Political Columnist of the Evening Standard, and Ann Treneman, Parliamentary Sketch Writer for The Times. |
