The Death of Malalai Kakar 1st OctoberÌý2008
The dangers faced by high-profile Afghan women

Last weekend Afghanistan’s top policewoman was shot dead as her son prepared to take her to work. Malalai Kakar was the head of Kandahar's department for crimes against women and was famous for her bravery throughout Afghanistan. She had already survived several assassination attempts. Horia Mosadiq is the Amnesty International expert on Afghanistan and joins Jane to talk about Malalai’s life and the implications of her death for other high profile Afghan women.
