Her journey from sinner to saint

The name Mary Magdalene conjures up many images: the beautiful woman with long golden hair, the mourner at the Crucifixion of Christ and witness to the Resurrection. But for nearly two thousand years the enduring image of her has been that of repentant prostitute. More recently in contemporary fiction she has been depicted as the wife of Jesus and mother of his children. So where did all the conflicting ideas and images of her come from and how much do we really know about the real Mary Magdalene? JaneÌýtraces her journey from sinner to saint withÌýSusan Haskins andÌýBelinda Sykes, Director and singer with Joglaresa and Professor of Medieval Song at Trinity College of Music in Greenwich.

Jogalresa will be performing a concert of music focusing on Mary Magdalene at the Haden Freeman Concert Hall at the Royal College of Northern Music in Manchester on 11th March at 7.30pm

Mary Magdalen: Myth & Metaphor by Susan Haskins is published byÌýHarper Collins
