The Guest Editors

A new team of editors has taken over the Today programme this week (Monday 29 December to Friday 2 January).

READ THEIR THOUGHTS AND LISTEN TO THE COMMISSIONS.

Monday: Author Monica Ali.
Tuesday: PoliticianÌýLord Tebbit.
Wednesday: Thom Yorke ofÌýRadiohead.Ìý
Thursday: Gillian Reynolds radio critic.
Friday: Professor Stephen Hawking.

The guest editors are responsible for about a third of each programme's output - though there'll be the normal day and night editors on hand to make sure that their material is newsworthy and stays within the law, the bounds of taste and decency and the 91Èȱ¬ Producers' Guidelines.

They'll also have the support of Today producers and reporters to turn their ideas into radio journalism - and most will be in the studio during the transmission of their own programme.

Our editor Kevin Marsh said: "Judging from the letters and emails I get, everybody thinks they can edit Today. Well ... Here's the chance for five of our better known listeners to prove it."
