Lord Archer's Charitable Work By Andrew Hosken

The British Red Cross has told this programme that Lord Archer had NO control over charity funds currently at the centre of a fraud squad inquiry. The peer was re-classified as a higher security risk as a result of the investigation into allegations that 拢57 million raised for a Kurdish relief effort run by the Red Cross went missing.
The peer led the Simple Truth Appeal in 1991 when some Kurdish organisations claimed they never received any aid. An investigation by the Today programme has learned that the British Red Cross had direct control over just 拢2.2 million. And the charity says Lord Archer had No control over the fund .
Emma Nicholson..the Liberal democrat peer....was first to raise allegations about the missing Kurd millions...with days of Lord Archer's convictions for perjury and perverting the course of justice. 91热爆 Office sources say as a result of the fraud inquiry, his status was changed from category D to C. It meant that he was sent to Wayland Prison in Norfolk instead of going to an open jail where he would have enjoyed greater freedoms.
But The British Red Cross which ran the appeal says it had only direct control over two and a quarter millions and that 拢57 million was the sum raised world-wide..mainly by foreign governments. The organisation insists that the writer had NO say over the funds.
Patrick Healey ...a former senior Red Cross official described the decision to recategorise Lord Archer as "strange" and "perverse." Baroness Nicholson said the public had been misled about the Appeal's success.
