Tuesday 11th May, 2004 Laureate for the terraces You've heard of the Poet Laureate, but now, after a nationwide competition, the sponsors of the football Premier League have created a new post: that of a "Chant Laureate". The winner, Jonny Hurst, from East London, has been given a 拢10,000 bursary to watch Premiership matches throughout the 2004/2005 season and compose chants recording significant events during the matches. The competition was judged by a panel whose chairedby the Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, and whose members included the Barnsley FC Poet-in-Residence Ian McMillan, and Radio 1 presenters Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave. The Premiership's sponsors say that football chants are "the lifeblood of our stadia, typifying the spirit, the passion and the wit of the beautiful game.", and that the aim of the competition was to find fans who could capture the humour and emotion of football. Lyrics to the winning chant: His name is Angel, And he's a show boy, An Alice Band keeps up his hair, Juan Pablo from Colombi-air, He came to Villa, To be a winner, He succeeded overnight, Our very own Angel Delight, Just hear the Villa roar, With each Juan Pablo score, We've got him on a four-year deal. But we still want more, At the Villa, at Aston Villa, The greatest club west of Manila, At the Villa, at Aston Villa, Football and passion, All ranges of fashion, At the Villa, we have it all, La la, Aston Vil la la, Aston Vil la la la, Vil la la la. (We'll be placing some listeners' Today chant submissions here shortly). The 91热爆 is not responsible for external websites |
