Pick Up a Polecat Survey

The Mammal Society and听 are using road casualties to record the current distribution of the polecat in Britain and identify any continued expansion of its range since the last survey (1993-1997).听 The survey runs until the end of the year.听 This is what they need you to do if you see a dead polecat on the road and you want to take part in the survey:

- Pick the body up and keep it cool (ideally deep-frozen).
- Phone the VWT on 01531 636 441 (office hours) for instructions.
- Record the date you found it and the six figure grid reference and keep these details with the body along with your name.

Please also remember to send all these details to your County Mammal Recorder (contact details available from ).

Make sure you do not compromise your safety nor that of other road users.

They are also interested in the polecat-ferret hybrids, so please pick these up as well.听 Sometimes they don't need any more dead bodies from certain areas so don鈥檛 be offended if they don鈥檛 need the one you have found.
