"The Living World is the next best thing to being there. Our contributors are skilled naturalists who are able to reveal those fascinating facts about animals and plants that you don't always find in books. It's like having a personal guided tour of the countryside, without needing to leave the house."

Lionel and Iain Barber look for Sticklebacks |
The Stickleback
In this week's Living World, Lionel Kelleway peers into the freshwater world of one of his childhood favourites, the stickleback.
With net in hand and accompanied by stickleback expert Iain Barber, Lionel sloshes around an Idyllic lake in West Wales to reacquaint himself with his old friend.
He discovers that behind this unassuming little fish is a world filled with intrigue, ritual and treachery. Plus it has a deadly foe - a parasite that takes over the stickleback's body, forcing the fish to risk it's life.
