Essex Geese

Brent Geese are Britain's smallest goose, almost duck size.ÌýThey breed in the vast open tundra of Northern Russia where, during summer, the long days generate a bounty of aquatic vegetation which they need to sustain their breeding effort.

The Essex Marshes, together with other wetland sites in Britain, provide invaluable enriched pasture for them to graze.ÌýThis combined with our pretty warm winters makes Britain a very important winter refuge for this spectacular migrant goose.
