Raising the Dark Age The oldest boat so far discovered in the Solent is seeing the light of day as archaeologists raise it from the intertidal shores of Langstone Harbour. The wooden canoe, hollowed out of an oak tree trunk, dates back to 500AD and is only the second dugout to be found in the Solent since the 1880s.
