The most importanat song by the most important band of the last 15 years. Genuine angst, stunning passion and great lyrics (if a little incoherent). To be moshed too by our kids and grandchildren!

Graham Keevill, Didcot Great song - but for a radically different (and equally strong) version, listen to the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain doing this. It is on their current live DVD - an amazing performance. It has tremendous impact in live performance - most definitely not a pastiche as you might expect.
Sina / Surrey This song absolutely rocks even if you don't have the faintest clue what the lyrics are.
Rob, London The first time I ever heard of Tori Amos was when I heard her performing a cover of this song on a late night radio show (around the time 'Little Earthquakes' was released). As covers go, it's one of the best. It's just her and a piano, and she slows it right down.

But... when you're 14 and you're 'dazed and confused' - all you need is Nirvana. It's not true that It was the anthem of Generation X only, it is still an anthem for mass of people. And it should be.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" was partly about apathy, but it made you want to do SOMETHING - cheer, fight, laugh, destroy the room, meet girls, throw away your other records, start a band, topple governments, whatever. Mostly, it made you want to be yourself. Absolutely seismic, absolutely timely, absolutely perfect.
