It reminds me of childhood, lost friends and lost loves
Val Coulthard
Jonathan Booth, Stockport I love Bette Midler's version. It was used in her film 'For The Boys' and is extremely emotional, and powerful.
leslie, NYC this song is really amazing, its bittersweet: it has such a sweet melody and lyrics but it forces you to think about the people in your lives, and who you've forgotten.
Peter from Cheshire I am ashamed to say that the first time I really noticed this song was during the title sequence for a football match shown on Sky TV.
I am from Liverpool and this music was used in the closing titles after Liverpool Football Club won the Champions League Final in istanbul in 2005... I was moved to tears and found a new respect for Mr Lennon..
Pete Fenelon, York That the young Lennon could write a song that resonated so strongly when sung by the ageing Cash many years later is a tribute to how good he was at the height of his powers.
Rick, Holland This is really my favourite song ever. It is also the most biographical song of a singer/band ever. Beautiful!
Andrew Scully, Edinburgh Just a lovely song that makes you think of the good times you had with people you've either loved or lost. And it's perfect for when you're looking through your photo albums.
Abby London (from Ghana) Brings tears to my eyes. We sang this song at my graduation ceremony after being at the same school for 7 years.
Jennifer-Essex,Vermont It made me cry before it reminded me of my husband- I've loved this song since I was about 15
Brian Naughton - Newry A beautiful reflective song, the sentiments of which most people can identify with. The best alternative version has to be that of Jose Feliciano which he performs in his own inimitable style.
Tony C, Toronto, Ontario Canada I find Bette Midler's version very powerful too.
Roger - Brackley Don't wish to be morbid,but...this is the song I have requested be played at my funeral. It has a magical mix of happy and sad, the like of which I think is unique. Whilst Mr Lennons voice is undoubtedly the best version - try and listen to Sean Connerys' cover on the George Martin album 'In My Life'
Jayson Glover - London Even at the age of 20 I feel quite nostalgic for my youth and this song encapsulates this perfectly. Not many days pass without me playing this song.
Rich Roach, Niagara Falls There is such an air of beauty in thinking that the places that help shape us have a life of their own.
