First song as a child that explained what I loved about success. "just for one day" - explains the highs and how quickly forgotten. Its not about being a hero to others but achievingthe feeling yourself and how amazing that feels.

One of the most uplifting songs ever. The underdog, against the odds, but never beaten.

Nice review apart from... 'An E-Bow is a primitive synthesiser'? Nah an E-Bow is a small (magnet?) that could produce a sustained note when placed over a guitar string, it has nothing to o with synthesisers.

This song was in my cassette player when I was in college in the 1980's. I used to listen to it to psych myself up before a difficult exam, and then listen again when the exam was over if I thought I was successful. Then, when I met the man who was to be come my husband, it sort of became one of our anthems when the world seemed against us being together. It is true, this song can mean almost anything you want it to mean.

"heroes" is one of those songs that can mean anything you want. It can be about you or someone you know, Bowie, it can be a story, whatever ending you want to give it, or about people who are heroes. Fantastic song almost perfect in every way. If you dan't find something in this song you must be dead.

"Heroes": a qunitessential populists view of what Bowie is good for. It isn't his best song or even the best song on the album but a song that managed to capture the hearts of almost everyone that heard it. This was Bowie's best period however and it is sorely missed: perhaps he should kick drugs again?

Bowie-net-Nick "MarcBolan", Darmstadt Germany
Heroes was always a very strong and sensual song to me. Ít´s a bit James Dean like.

Paul Ockenden, Brighton
"Heroes" (don't forget that those double quotes are part of the title) is, I think, the Dame's best ever song. It was both new-wave(ish) and anthemic at the same time - something of an acheivement. It's also one of those songs which, when it comes on the car CD player, I have to PLAY VERY LOUDLY. And I'll probably press repeat and play it over and over again. It gets inside your head (and I'm sure it makes me drive badly!) Nico once told me that Bowie wrote "Heroes" specially for her. I somehow doubt that's true, but it's certainly worth checking out her cover versions, as she gives it that 'German' feel which the song really needs, and which is sadly missing from the Blondie version.
