single from the Album "Stripped" was rushed out after sales of the first single, "Dirrty", failed to impress. "Dirtty" managed the 48 mark in the Billboard Top 100 though the raunchy video with a semi clothed Aguilera, cross dressing and homo-erotica was no. 1 on MTV. According to Perry, "Beautiful" had been the first choice for the initial single but Anguilera had insisted on "Dirrty". However, Aguilera’s bossesÌýdeny the claim saying there was a unitied front on the decision for the first release, but Aguilera’s second single certainly made a far bigger impact. The story goes that Aguilera had seen how Perry had revitalised Pink’s career and was keen to get her on board for her second studio album.ÌýPerry brought an straight talking rock sensibility to Christina’s act and insisted on a tougher, heart felt style. Before recording the song they talked and Christina recalled suffering physical abuse at the hands of her father. She became so upset that she wanted to abandon the recording but Perry decided it should go ahead. Other recordings were made that were more technically polished but Perry, who wrote and produced the track, insisted on the raw first take. In the US Beautiful reached no. 2 in The Billboard Top 100, taking the Ìýno.1 in the UK singles chart in March 2003.Ìý
