3D Printed Prosthetic Limbs for Injured Refugees
3D printed limbs; Unsane, the movie made on a phone; Future Sessions IoT; Ling Tan’s SUPERGESTURES
3D printed prosthetic limbs are helping a Jordanian hospital treat Syrian war refugees. Click talks to Safa Herfat from MSF about replicating the project elsewhere.
Steven Soderbergh’s latest film Unsane was shot entirely on a smart phone. Whilst Sean Baker’s Tangerine was similarly shot cheaply, Soderbergh’s use of the phone was for aesthetic reasons. Click hears from Soderbergh about his innovative smartphone use and what makes it superior to 35mm film.
As computing dissolves into the everyday, we are surrounded by connected, intelligent objects. A bin or coffee cup can be a computing device, a sensor or actuator. Invisible agents monitor and influence our lives, largely unchecked. Future Sessions: Trust in invisible agents is a unique programme created by FutureEverything that wants to understand who and what influence these agents have on our lives. Click talks to Drew Hemment, CEO of FutureEverything and Mara Balestrini from Ideas for Change.
The SUPERGESTURES project was created by Ling Tan and youths across Manchester and explores the everyday impact of technology on the city. Ling Tan discusses the wearable tech she has made and woven into jackets used by volunteers to convert gesticulations into their concerns about, and experiences within, the city.
