Kyiv resident: ‘Our house was totally destroyed overnight’
As war broke out yesterday in Ukraine, Kyiv resident Olena Symonenko left her home with her family to try to get to the border, but it was too late. She spent the night hiding in a friend’s house in an area of Kyiv called the Right Bank.
At 4.30am this morning, she sent the 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4 Woman’s Hour team a photo of her apartment block. It had been destroyed overnight.
Hiding in her friend’s house, near a bomb shelter, along with her six-year-old son, she told Woman’s Hour on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4 about what happened and her fears for her and her family’s future.
You can listen to Olena’s full interview by heading to 91Èȱ¬ Sounds and listening to the 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4 Woman’s Hour podcast from 25 February.
