I Have Longed to Move Away
Welsh singer Cerys Matthews’ reading of a lesser-known Dylan Thomas poem in front of a live audience in Bristol, from a Radio 4 Programme broadcast in 2012. This short poem was first published in the magazine ‘New Directions’ in 1935 and then appeared in his collection ‘25 Poems’ in a revised form a year later. In 1935 Thomas was still living with his parents in Cwmdonkin Drive, Swansea (though now aged 21), so the poem perhaps reflects a need in him to move away from the society that bred him.
