Ramming rites
On Mount McKinley mountain sheep called dall sheep dig in the snow for food. Ground squirrels live here all year round, insulated in their burrows by the covering of snow. Mountain sheep like these extend all through North America, Asia and Europe. They all have big horns and all the senior males indulge in the most alarming courtship battles when autumn is upon them. The dall sheep, for instance, raise themselves up on their hind legs before crashing their horns together.
