Island surprise
Many Hawaiian insects are flightless and use their wings for a different purpose such as courtship or defence. Some have lost them all together. Other Hawaiian insects have evolved a new diet. Unlike its plant-eating relatives elsewhere, the Hawaiian twig caterpillar is a carnivore that uses tiny hairs on its back end to detect flies.
