Scottish Ambulance Service figures show that in the first week of December, one in every ten ambulances spent almost two hours outside a hospital because there was no space in A&E. Across the heath service hospitals are having to cope with fewer available beds. It stops crews getting back on the road to answer other 999 calls and means patients are having to wait longer for ambulances. The government says its investing £12 million pounds on the ambulance service to help ease pressures this winter.
