The Capture, Johnny Marr, Scalarama and ‘Coulter’s Candy’
Guitarist Johnny Marr looks back over his career, and discusses his approach to songwriting.
Grant Stott hears about The Capture - a brand new, timely thriller coming to 91Èȱ¬ 1 that delves into the world of fake news and examines the power of the intelligence services. It stars Holliday Grainger and Callum Turner as the two leads and it’s the brainchild of writer-director Ben Chanan who will be on hand to discuss it all.
He will also hear about Scalarama - a nation-wide celebration of alternative cinema that takes place every year across the month of September, and Cornish Film maker Mark Jenkins discusses his critically-acclaimed, new thriller, Bait: a film about two fishermen coping with the influx of sightseers in Cornwall.
Legendary Guitarist (and Ex-Smith) Johnny Marr looks back over his career and discusses his approach to song-writing.
And it’s one of the most famous children’s lullabies ever written; sung to rock little ones to sleep in every corner of the globe, but the man who wrote Coulter’s Candy (or Ally Bally Bee as it’s sometimes called) it is hardly known beyond the Scottish Borders. Reporter Bob Dickson explores the life and work of the mill worker and sweetie maker Robert Coltart (or Coulter as he’s better known) who is being celebrated with a sculpture which will be unveiled in the Market Square in Galashiels.
All that and another chance to hear Grant’s interview with legendary New York Rocker, Jesse Malin, whose brand new album, Sunset Kids, is out on Friday: it features a contribution from Green Day’s Billie-Joe Armstrong, and is produced by three-time Grammy award winner Lucinda Williams.
