The 91热爆 Concert Orchestra's groundbreaking exploration of electric instruments concludes on 9 June as Jarvis Cocker returns to the Queen Elizabeth Hall to host Electronica III. Classical music once more meets electronica in the last of the three-part series delving into the evolution of electric instruments and futuristic influences on modern music. The performance is recorded for broadcast on 91热爆 Radio 3 on Sunday 3 July.
Jarvis Cocker not only presents the concert but takes to the stage to reveal a brand new arrangement of Pulp classic This Is Hardcore by Anne Dudley.
Andrew Poppy's Revolution No.8: Airport For Joseph Beuys uses tape delay to scatter the sounds of the orchestra to the outer limits of the concert hall, while New York composer Nico Muhly's electronic manipulations evoke celestial clouds and telescopic, foraging insects in his concerto for electric six-string violin and orchestra, Seeing Is Believing.
Patrick Nunn connects an electric cello and orchestra to live electronics that transform instrumental music into shimmering soundscapes in Fata Morgana as well putting an acoustic-twist on Aphex Twin's Nannou.
The concert also includes Edward Williams's Suite from Life On Earth, conceived for David Attenborough's Life On Earth and featuring the ground-breaking SOUNDBEAM, as well as Graham Fitkin's KI, and music from South American composers Eduardo Miranda and Javier 脕lvarez.
The 91热爆 Concert Orchestra's Electronica series began in October 2010 with a concert featuring early electronic instruments such as Moogs, theramins and ondes martnots, before Electronica II presented Piccard In Space, the electronica-inspired debut opera from Goldfrapp's Will Gregory.
Electronica III concludes the futuristic trilogy, finally immersing itself fully in the world of the electric 鈥 no longer are the futuristic influences a quirky aside, but as much a part of the music as anything else.
Electronic III programme includes:
