Dave Pearce celebrates dance music on Radio 2

DJ and broadcaster Dave Pearce hosts new Dance Music show on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2 from Thursday 14 April, 11pm to midnight.

Over the years, most popular music trends inevitably come and go but dance music is one major exception. In this 13-week series, Dave Pearce trawls through his vast record collection spinning some of his favourite tracks which have helped define UK club culture over the past 40 years.

Each programme spotlights a defining era, journeying through the evolution of dance – from disco to jazz funk and from the electronic Eighties to the advent of house music, Ibiza and beyond.

Celebrating DJ legends and searching for the ultimate 12" single, Dave will also invite listeners to reveal their adventures in clubland over the years. The show is a great chance to take a nostalgic trip back to some of the best nights of their life!

Dave says: "I'm delighted to be able to share my passion for dance music with listeners to Radio 2. With nearly all the original heavyweight DJs over 50 now I guess dance music has finally come of age! It's time to bring back some of those great records that we all miss.

"I've been working in dance since playing disco on land-based pirate radio in the late Seventies and have continued going to clubs, DJ-ing and enjoying the music ever since. I'm really looking forward to hearing listener's anecdotes and record suggestions. People often say to me whatever happened to all those great records, the good news is that they are under my bed and in my loft!"

The creation of the 12" mix during the disco era of the Seventies changed the way records were produced forever and invented a new concept that 40 years later is still as popular as ever. Generations of Britons have enjoyed some of the best nights of their lives experiencing dance music in its different styles.

Dave rounds off saying: "If dance music played a big part in your life this show is for you, whether you swapped the dance-floor for your living room 40, 30, 20 or 10 years ago or you are a secret armchair raver, I hope you can join me on Thursday nights or on the 91Èȱ¬ iPlayer."

Dave Pearce's show starts on Thursday 14 April, live from 11pm to midnight on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 2.
