Award-winning queen of comedy Miranda moves to 91Èȱ¬ One

Miranda, the critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning sitcom written by and starring Miranda Hart is to move from 91Èȱ¬ Two to 91Èȱ¬ One when it returns to screens for its third series, the timing of which is yet to be confirmed.

George Entwistle, Acting Director Vision, said: "Miranda's been a tremendous hit with audiences on 91Èȱ¬ Two and I'm very glad she's let us persuade her to move to 91Èȱ¬ One, where we believe we can build an even bigger following for her multi-award-winning show. 91Èȱ¬ Two has done an exceptional job of supporting and nurturing Miranda over a number of years and I'm certain she'll be equally well looked after at 91Èȱ¬ One."

Miranda Hart said: "I am very grateful to 91Èȱ¬ Two for supporting and nurturing me, and trusting my vision for the show. Two will always feel like home. Now I feel like I am renting a swish apartment that I hope I don't look out of place in or break all the furniture!"

Danny Cohen, Controller 91Èȱ¬ One, said: "Miranda has become one of the great comedy stars of her generation. I'm a big fan and know that she will be much loved by 91Èȱ¬ One audiences."

Mark Freeland, Head of Comedy at the 91Èȱ¬, said: "More Miranda? That news puts an enormous smile on my face. From its life on radio and all the way through to 91Èȱ¬ One – that's a great story."

Miranda is a 91Èȱ¬ in-house comedy production. The last series was produced by Emma Strain and directed by Juliet May. Jo Sargent is the 91Èȱ¬ executive producer.

Awards for the series include:

  • Bafta 2010 – Female performance in a comedy role (nominated)

  • Best Comedy– Monte Carlo TV Festival 2010 (nominated)
  • Best New British TV Comedy – British Comedy Awards 2011

Notes to Editors

91Èȱ¬ in-house Comedy prides itself on working with the very best in comedy talent – established and new – both on and behind the screen, and is responsible for some of the county's most watched and loved comedies across radio, online and all four 91Èȱ¬ TV channels.

Come Fly With Me has just finished its magnificent first run on 91Èȱ¬ One to huge audiences – over 17m for the first episode alone and we are currently working on a brand new project for 91Èȱ¬ Two with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant starring Warwick Davis called Life’s Too Short.

The multi award-winning Miranda has been recommissioned for a third series and Psychoville will be back on Two later in the year along with a new series from Stewart Lee and also Roger And Val, with Dawn French and Alfred Molina. Also returning is 91Èȱ¬ Two's critically-acclaimed The Thick Of It which won three BAFTAs in 2010.

Last year Mongrels unleashed its animal magic on 91Èȱ¬ Three and will return later this year, along with new series of Two Pints and Ideal. And on 91Èȱ¬ Four Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes will be starring in Twenty Twelve, a comedy about The Olympics.

Radio Comedy goes from strength to strength with stand out shows such as Bleak Expectations and the ever popular Newsquiz. The listening figures across the board are reaching new heights. Online in-house comedy continues to grow – the comedy website increasing its views by 350% in 18 months. We are now working with over 100 new writers on this platform.

We are extremely proud of all our output across the three platforms and are thrilled by the 10 major awards including BAFTAs, RTS and Comedy Awards we have won this year.
