Dragons' Den star James Caan is set to be part of the 91Èȱ¬ Asian Network's Making Money Week – a week of special programming which investigates the positive contribution that Asians are making in the financial crisis and also to celebrate the success of Asian enterprise in the UK.
Starting today, Monday 25 October, the network will speak to a range of businesses, unveiling the secrets to their success and also speaks exclusively to Caan – one of Britain's most high-profile businessmen.
Most of the programming will live in the station's news programme, Asian Network Reports, which today comes live from Regal Foods Café in Bradford, at 12.30pm and 6pm.
Hearing from a variety of management and employees, the programme examines how a tiny corner shop grew into the huge, thriving business it is today, with its name on many supermarket shelves.
Also on today, and during Tuesday's Asian Network Reports, presenter Rozini Sini will be picking the business brain of James Caan. The successful British-Pakistani entrepreneur reveals what he thinks about the profile of Asian businesses in the UK; why he changed his name from Khan to Caan; and why he thinks so many Asian individuals become entrepreneurs.
He also gives his top three tips to success in Friday's programme. These two interviews will be complemented by an online video interview, which will be available to view on the from today.
Kevin Silverton, Head of News, 91Èȱ¬ Asian Network, says: "Asian businessmen and women have got such a big part to play in helping Britain towards more stable times and we wanted to shout about this and look at some of the issues they face. It's great to have James Caan on board, too."
During the week, Asian Network Reports investigates the topic of making money; talks to Asian entrepreneurs young and old, male and female; and evaluates what effect the Government's Spending Review and policy changes are having on British Asian businesses.
The station's news content will be supported by the daytime schedule, with "five of the best" new Asian entrepreneurs featured on programming across the week.
Kicking off in this morning's Breakfast programme, Tommy Sandhu spoke to Jaswinder Sembhi, an accessories designer from Essex. On Tuesday, Sonia Deol (10am) chats to Shazia Awan from Greater Manchester, who owns anti-cellulite-busting underwear company Peachy Pink; on Wednesday, Nihal (1pm) hears from Dr Rita Ahmad about her dental empire in Scotland; Thursday sees Sanjay Sharma (8.30pm) catching up with stay-at-home mum Farnaz Khan, from Bradford, who juggles family life with two very successful online business ideas; and, rounding off the week on Friday, Noreen Khan (3pm) speaks to 26-year-old Kindi Sunner, from the West Midlands, who has set up an exclusive catering business.
British Asians are known for their entrepreneurial spirit and money-making skills and the Asian Network's Money Making Week is a way of highlighting these individuals' extraordinary efforts and will inspire other budding entrepreneurs, offering tips and advice on becoming a business success story.
